HMRC have confirmed that the second phase roll out of the new 30 hours free childcare has begun.
This includes doubling free childcare to 30 hours a week and introducing Tax-Free Childcare, which – for the first time – is available to self-employed parents, and all qualifying working parents regardless of their employer.
On 24 November 2017, HMRC will open the service to parents whose youngest child is under 6 or who has their 6th birthday on that day. You can apply online through the childcare service which can be accessed via the Childcare Choices website. On registering, you will receive a code, which in turn allows you to arrange your childcare place. You can take their code to their provider or council, along with your National Insurance Number and child’s date of birth. The provider or council will check the code is authentic and allocate your child with a free childcare place.
HMRC will gradually open the childcare service to parents of older children, while continuing to make further improvements to the system.
All eligible parents will be able to apply by the end of March 2018.
Please remember that you need to reconfirm your eligibility every 3 months
