As the January deadline approaches for paying your 2017-18 tax bill, here’s the link to pay:
https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/pay-online/self-assessment
You will need your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR). This 10-digit number will be shown on your bill and other correspondence from HMRC. If you’re a client of My Accountancy Hub, it’ll also be on the tax information we’ve sent you.
Please note that you cannot pay by personal credit card; it must be a corporate or debit card. HMRC will accept your payment on the date you make it, not the date it reaches their account – including on bank holidays and weekends.
What can I do if I can’t pay my tax bill?
If you can’t pay your bill in full you need to contact HMRC as soon as possible. They may allow you to pay in instalments. However, they will charge you interest on any overdue amounts.
If you owe them £10,000 or less and have no other tax debts, you can set up a payment plan online. (You’ll need a government gateway account.)
If not, you’ll have to call them. HMRC can be reached on 0300 200 3835. They are open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm over the weekend. If you call before 9am you’ll generally get through more quickly.
As agents, we cannot speak to HMRC about payment plans.
