We’ve recently been contacted by a client who received a letter from UK-Data Control. Everything seems official and it asks for ˜Missing Information about your VAT Registration Number”. See below for a copy of the letter.
A registration form comes with the letter asking for various business details. Shortly after submission, an invoice for £790 arrives on your doorstep charging for a listing on their portal!
These listings will give no benefit to your business whatsoever as there is no requirement to be on the register and the listing will go unseen. The company is registered in Hamburg and is set up purely to mislead people into paying the fee.
The scam was doing the rounds earlier this year in Scotland and it looks like they’ve moved on to other parts of the UK. If you’ve been a victim of this already you can report it to trading standards on 03454 04 05 06; otherwise throw it straight in the shredder!
